Movie Marathon

Posted on Updated on

Since my gallbladder surgery, I haven’t been able to do much lately. Nothing strenuous anyway. The same television shows I have seen dozens of times, daytime soap operas I don’t care to watch, and outdated game shows I can guess the outcome of. I am about to lose my mind.

So this past Friday, Tommy & I go on a date. First date we have had, just the two of us, in I can’t remember how long. I wanted dinner and a movie, but without people. I didn’t want to be around anyone but my husband. We catch an early dinner, about 5, restaurant is empty; it’s perfect. What are the chances of going to the movies & the theatre being empty? Yeah, we could not get that lucky. Next best thing? Rentals: The movie store! We browse the shelves and pick out a handful of movies. He finds several he likes (which typically involves some western and/or war movie) and I find a few we both can enjoy. All weekend long we enjoyed the last few days of quiet and just “us” time. Rhett will be coming home in a few days and back to reality we will be. I haven’t seen very many movies being advertised lately; so we go in this endeavor blinded. To my surprise, we did quite well with our selections. :]

  • Money Monster
    • I thoroughly enjoyed this movie; real life possibilities here. Definitely a must see.
  • Traded
    • Horrible acting, great concept. Movie was…. mediocre?
  • Masterminds
    • This movie was hilarious. It reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite with the cheesy humor.
  • Captain America: Civil War
    • Super hard to follow. I kept asking Tommy questions. You have to be familiar with the comic characters. Otherwise, this was a so-so film.
  • Suicide Squad
    • Would not recommend watching this with kids. Humorous, yet full of action. Really enjoyed; 4 out of 5 stars for me.

Ya’ll… The guest bathroom is done(~ish)! Done enough to post! [We lack painting the open shelving] It has been long over due, and I am so glad that it is functioning. Three people and one bathroom under one roof just doesn’t cut it for me. Especially with me being the only girl in the house! [I need my space.]

First off, please keep in mind that we gutted this bathroom [top to bottom], which is why it took fooooorrrreeevvver! So worth it in the end.

During Demo: What a mess!

Replacing and installing insulation in the subfloor.

Floor ductwork and platform built for AC unit.

Moving light fixtures and putting up headboard ceiling.

Shiplap everywhere! 🙂

Floor leveler down and sanded. Flooring installed.

Cement board for tiled shower installed & remaining shiplap installed.

Tile Installation, Grouting and Sealing.

Finishing Touches.

And Voila! We have a functioning bathroom! :]

Until the next renovation,

I ran this 5k race in Cumby, TX last year and enjoyed the route. Although this is fairly soon, and hopefully I’ll be released to fully run; I’m going to attend this race again. It is a color run, however, you can run around the color booths [which I highly recommend, unless you are just running for fun]. •Race is May 13•

Fast

Posted on Updated on

For over two years now, I have had this unexplainable pain “flare” up about once every two or three months. The pain of all pains. The Big Kahuna. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. It felt as if my body were trying to eat itself. Burning, stabbing pain. Nothing would subside the pain. I just lived with it. It typically would go away, fast. I thought this pain was my “new norm”. I couldn’t ever pinpoint what triggered this pain, it just seemed to be sporadic and random.

Fast forward… Sunday night.

  • 6pm- Eat dinner. The usual, broiled fish.
  • 7pm – Pain starts. This would be the moment if I were pregnant that I would be screaming for an epidural.
  • 9pm – Vomiting begins. [TMI, I know.]
  • 9:30pm – Tommy takes me to the ER. [This took awhile because I couldn’t find pants]
  • 11pm – CT scan of stomach/abdomen.
  • 1:30am – Sonogram of abdomen.
  • 2:15am – Ambulance ride to Greenville Hospital. [Worst ride of my life, btw.]
  • 9am – Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. [This is the technical term for them removing my gallbladder]
  • 7pm – Sending me home.

Fast forward. That’s exactly how Sunday night/Monday went. Fast. In and out of the ER/hospital after having surgery in less than 24 hours. Yes, you read that correctly, LESS than 24 hours. It was all so fast, yet the recovery is so slow. I worked so hard the last few months on working out, getting in shape, running, etc. and for it all to come to a stop because I’m restricted on working out. Sad, sad day. On a brighter note, I’ve had a mini vacation from work, although there is absolutely nothing fun to do at home & there is nothing on daytime tv besides soap operas I refuse to watch. 😉

So now, we wait. Wait for my healing, wait for the scars to heal, wait for the beginning of being able to work out again, wait for the “normal” to return, and the best wait yet… VACA back in the USVI in less than a month!

Until the next organ is removed,

Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

What a great Spring this year has brought. We have made lots of fun, family memories. From Rhett’s third birthday four wheeler ride to his first fish!

Last Minute Snacks

Attending an early Easter egg hunt for Rhett today with friends and had instructions to bring a snack/finger food. Of course, who waits until the very last minute? Me! However, even with no plan, I made the yummiest, easiest snacks!

Turkey, Prosciutto & Chia Seed Rollups

  • Tortillas
  • Block of cream cheese
  • 1 package prosciutto
  • Deli thin turkey slices
  • Chia seeds (1 tbsp per block)
  1. Mix the chia seeds in with room temp cream cheese.
  2. Spread evenly over tortilla.
  3. Add turkey & prosciutto.
  4. Roll tightly.
  5. Place in fridge to set for about an hour.
  6. Cut into 1/2 inch thick slices.

ENJOY!

I served with picante sauce and pimento stuffed baby peppers.

Note: To mix it up, on some rolls, I added only turkey and on some, only prosciutto.

Spring Break 2017

What a month! It is speeding by so gracefully… Here’s a recap of some of my favorite memories AND a sneak peak of our newly renovated bathroom! (Plumber came over Spring Break and we have been super busy.)

This cute little farmer picked up his own apple for a quick snack. How cute is this?? I’ll post this DIY Pinterest find Farmhouse Produce Stand in a few days. Literally, one of the easiest DIY wood projects.

Amidst our mini Spring Break trip we stopped at the Cosmic Cavern in Berryville, Arkansas! Rhett had an absolute blast (mom & dad did too!). So much information to let soak in and great sights to see!

We went to Branson, Missouri for a few days over Spring Break this year. Used our timeshare points (Bluegreen) and stayed at The Falls. Such a quiet (outside) place to stay for a mini vacation tucked into the hills of Branson. Of course, the first place Rhett wanted to go, was the jacuzzi tub, we obliged. He had so much fun in his “swimming pool”.

We went to the Dixie Stampede while we were in Branson, and again, Rhett absolutely loved it. He loved seeing the horses and the lights and fire that went along with the show. I’ve been to Branson multiple times and I have NEVER been, until now. Of course, I will be back. The food and show were amazing.

Bathroom Sneak Peek:

Check out our super cute helper! I’ll make an entire post from start to finish when all the finishing touches are made.

Until then,

Thanks to my husband and Snapchat for the following photo… this is pretty much how the first month of 2017 went.

Between school, work, and sickness we are just completely worn out. Let’s hope February starts off a little better.

*Bathroom Update* We are currently on the books with the plumber, so any day now we shall have a completed bathroom. No photo updates until then. You know the suspense is killing you.

Until then,
