The day for rest and worship. The day to be with family. The day to refuel for the week ahead. The day to love.

As we are relaxing and having a very, very lazy Sunday, Rhett is running around the house like the rambunctious two year old he is. The sound of laughter and squeals fill the house. Pure joy. [and maybe a little aggravation because I can’t hear the tv over his bellowing voice] I’m really not mad. I can’t be.

He comes running into the living room with a pair of pants that he wishes to put on, we oblige. He runs off back into his room and then back in the living room with us, this time with a onesie. He insists on putting it on. How can you not love it? Even if he looks completely ridiculous. He was so proud of the decision he made with his outfit, I hope he continues to be proud with every decision he makes as he continues to grow up and become a young man, but for now, he can stay my sweet little boy.

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” •Psalms 118:24

Sweet Tea

Pinterest is the devil. Just kidding. It has become such an inspiration for me as I’m sure it has for every other Pinterest user.  Pinterest has inspired me to cook more, cook differently, tackle all of my home DIY projects because let’s be honest, after seeing it on Pinterest, you become a professional. :] With all of the inspiration, also comes the inspiration to HOST a party. For those of you who know me, I’m not a social person •whatsoever•. I decided that I wanted to host a party, a girl’s night party, so over the weekend I hosted a “Cookies & Cocktails” themed Girls Night In party.

Now… on to the important stuff • the cocktails!

A friend of mine recently told me about Deep Eddy Vodka and how awesome it is, so I decided I would try it out for myself and let me tell you… it. is. awesome!

This little gem right here is worth getting. Anyway, any true Texan loves some southern sweet tea and any drink that’s got a little kick to it is a winner in my book. Super easy and refreshing!

“Sweet” Tea:

 • Sweet tea [I prefer Pure Leaf’s Extra Sweet]
 • Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka

Add as much or as little of the lemon vodka to your sweet tea and you will be set. This has to be the smoothest and best tasting vodka I have ever had. Go ahead, go on out and buy you a bottle. You won’t regret it. 🙂

PS. The party was super fun by the way!

My Seven Dwarfs

Posted on Updated on

I’ve been debating over the past week what I was going to name my new seven baby chicks. After deciding not to name them all individually, I have decided they will be named and addressed as a group now. They will be my “seven dwarfs”. Therefore I can yell out Sleepy, Happy or Doc anytime I want and hopefully at least one of them will acknowledge being addressed.

With the addition of our seven baby chicks, we had to add on to our chicken coop. It’s nothing special, but it works out perfectly. We extended a secluded 4ft section onto our previous coop and added a small house at the top for when they were teeny tiny. Once they are big enough to be joined with the rest of the flock, we will take out the chicken wire that divides the two pens and let them all hang out. But, in all reality, we are probably going to have to add on even more!

We enjoy being able to have fresh eggs at our fingertips everyday and soon we will be giving a hand at incubating our own eggs too! Wish us luck!

On to the next “eggventure“.

For This Child I Have Prayed

Posted on Updated on

I enjoy my Saturday mornings with my family. I enjoy having the luxury to have a family. I enjoy the blessing God has given me with the love of my family.

I am truly blessed with such a loving, charismatic husband and the most, absolute precious little boy who has the same charisma as his father. There are days when it truly is tough.. tough to be a good mother, tough to be a good wife, tough to be the person I know I should be, but I have to step back and look at the big picture; the two blessings in front of me. The love I have for these two is indescribable. They are the ones that keep me together when I feel like I’m falling apart.

When thinking of the future, I’m genuinely scared. Not scared for me, not scared for my husband, but scared for my innocent Rhett. This world we live in is full of such hate and violence and I wish I could just protect him forever and shield him from the contamination our world puts out. But for now, I’ll just gaze across this breakfast table and enjoy little moments like these, I know they won’t last forever.

Samuel 1:27•• For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him.

I have seriously neglected my writing over the last several months. I have gotten on to write a blog post and nothing seemed to come to mind that was worth writing, or at least I thought it wasn’t. Now, looking back at all the things that have happened and the things that I have accomplished, I realized my ·want to· to write just wasn’t there.

I have become a garden grower and chicken farmer in just a few short months. I’m not claiming to have a green thumb at all, because by the looks of most of the vegetables in my garden, you could clearly define that I am far from that. I’ve enjoyed planting vegetables from seeds and watching them grow over time and be able to go out in the yard and pick what I wanted to have for dinner knowing that it is truly fresh and nothing was added to it that could harm myself or my family.

A little •DIY• we did for our garden [as pictured above]: We took a 1×2 cedar board and cut into about 12in pieces to create stakes and then burned the names of the veggies onto it. Turned out super cute and can easily be used for future gardens over the years.

Tomatoes and garden beans have been just two of the veggies we have been able to cook with frequently. All of this Texas rain we have gotten this Spring has just helped these grow! I let Rhett come out with me and pick the veggies that are ready to be harvested; he’s in charge of holding the basket for me to put my veggie finds in. He is most entertained by watering the flowers and vegetables, so I had to go out and buy his own watering can. Screen Shot 2016-06-13 at 7.37.28 PM.png

The one thing [or 13 things] I am most proud and excited about is my new hobby of chickens. After months of begging my husband to let me get “just a few” chickens, he finally gave in. We started out with 4 baby chicks unsure if they would be roosters or hens. Since then, we have increased our coop size to 12 pullets and 1 rooster. Who would have thought that chickens could be so entertaining? I mean, I seriously could sit outside for hours and just watch them peck and scratch around the yard [and I do!]. We built our own coop from scrap lumber we had leftover from other home DIY projects, so really, it doesn’t cost us anything extra besides the tin we had to purchase for the roof.

I even used my Cricut to create decorative signs for my coop! If I’m going to have a chicken coop in my yard, it’s going to be cute! 🙂

My sweet babies started out as chicks, and are now almost grown! We’ve got three hens that are already laying, and two that are about a month shy from being at the laying age. I’m on pins and needles waiting! About a week ago we got 7 baby female chicks, and with the addition, we had to add on to our coop. I’ll post pictures at a later date. [all of this rain has made it a muddy mess] But for now, here are some older pictures of my first loves.

Seriously! Baby chicks are the cutest things… they are like puppies or kittens, you just can’t stop looking at them!

It is always a joy to go out and check our nesting boxes to find FRESH eggs in there. We are getting about 3 eggs a day at this point, which is perfect for my family of three. In a few months we will be over run with eggs I’m assuming whenever my other hens start to lay. I will spread the love of fresh eggs with my friends and family because as I’ve learned •Fresh Eggs are the Best Eggs•.
